Aubrey and I spent a few hours talking, but then she had to go. I didn’t want her canceling her date with Gareth because of the shit that I was going through. She had already been a big help to me, just by being there, just by listening.

After she managed to calm me down, I tried to explain the whole day’s events in as much detail as possible. Now that I was hearing myself say it, it sounded ridiculous! Aubrey did a good job of hiding how shocked she was. Instead, we drank cups of tea together and talked about it.

Aubrey insisted that I needed to just forget about the incident, forget about Brandon and Camille, and just move on. Chances were that I would never have to see him again.

The thing was—no matter how insulted I felt when he pushed me away, and no matter how confused I was about his intentions; the one thing I did know was that I had never been this attracted to a stranger before. He didn’t even seem like a stranger to me anymore.

Aubrey said that I needed to focus on moving on instead, and I would just have to think about Brandon as a one-time thing. That for the sake of my own sanity, I just needed to stop thinking about him and start focusing on what I was going to do with my life.

“Am I interrupting something?” he asked with a smirk on his face.

Brandon hadn’t changed out of the clothes he was wearing earlier, a dark stubble had formed on his cheeks now, and he looked as devastatingly handsome as ever. I felt self-conscious suddenly, standing there in my old pajamas and my curls all bunched up on top of my head messily.

“Umm … yeah, sort of. What are you doing here?” I asked him, blocking his path and vision into my apartment with my body. Even though I knew he wasn’t the kind of man who would judge my humble abode, I still couldn’t just forget that he was a billionaire, and my studio was probably the size of his bathroom.

“I wanted to ask you a question. I’m sorry if this isn’t the most appropriate way to do it,” he said.

I felt my throat run dry. What question could he possibly have to ask me? I stood silently, staring at him, waiting for him to continue.

“I’m going back
